Welcome to Ren 12, a clinic offering both Acupuncture and Naturopathy.
Ren 12 (Zhongwan) is an important acupuncture point on the abdomen, representing the centre of the stomach. Given the importance of good digestive function in both Chinese Medicine and Naturopathic Medicine, the name Ren 12 resonates with me.
Clinically, my focus is on acupuncture as the primary treatment but I often incorporate naturopathic components such as herbs or nutritional supplements to achieve the best outcome for my clients.
Practicing as a Naturopath since 1991, I also have a Masters Degree in Acupuncture from RMIT University. I held the role of Senior lecturer of Naturopathy at Endeavour College (Adelaide Campus) for 7 years and I continue to teach in the department.
Acupuncture as a form of healing is said to have originated in China but it also has a long history of use in Japan, Korea, Vietnam and many other Asian countries. Nowadays it is widely used worldwide, including Australia where is has gained wide recognition and is spreading in popularity as a health treatment.
The therapy is based on balancing and harmonising the energy channels (meridians) of the body to maintain an appropriate level of qi (energy) flow through the tissues.
This is achieved by the use of very fine needles at acupuncture points and the use of moxa therapy.
Traditionally Naturopathy focuses on enhancing body vitality to support the body's ability to self-heal. It involves lifestyle, nutritional and dietary guidance, and may also include the use of herbal medicines to correct imbalances, deficiencies, and illness.
I draw on my Naturopathic training to complement and enhance the benefits of the acupuncture treatment so as to have clients feeling restored to health and vitality as soon as possible.
